2010 VASFAA Annual Conference
May 23 - 26, 2010
Embassy Suites - Hampton Roads Hotel,
Spa & Convention Center

President's Welcome

I am so excited about our Spring 2010 conference and invite you to attend. Our theme this year has been "Reach for the Stars" and this conference will be no exception to the great things we have accomplished this year. As you all know, the changes just keep on coming and this will be the perfect opportunity for you to get the training you need, network with your colleagues and simply re-charge for the challenges ahead!

The conference will be held from May 23 to 26, 2010 at the Embassy Suites in Hampton, VA. The Conference Committee, under the direction of co-chairs, Zita Barree and Biz Daniel, has been diligently working to offer sessions that are compelling, timely, and interesting, and we hope the result is a conference that you will be glad you attended.

In addition to informative concurrent sessions, the conference will offer general sessions that will benefit the entire VASFAA membership. We are excited that Greg Martin from the U.S. Department of Education will provide our Federal Update and Lee Andes will discuss relevant state issues and the results of recent budget cuts.

VASFAA members are encouraged to attend our New Aid Officer's Workshop on Sunday, May 23 from 9:00 to 3:00. This workshop is free for our members and will provide an intensive introduction to the financial aid profession. More information regarding this event will be forthcoming from Pam Rambo and Renee Peterson, so watch your email for details.

Networking and fellowship is an important part of any conference, so there will be a meet and greet on Sunday evening and the President's Reception on Monday evening. I hope to see you all there.

Look for upcoming registration information and hotel details by visiting our conference mini-site. The conference registration fee has been held at last year's rate of $210 and a new day rate is also available. The hotel group rate is a low $81 per night plus tax for a single and $91 plus tax per night for double occupancy; you must make your reservation no later than April 22, 2010. Again, please visit our conference mini-site for details about registration and to make your hotel reservations.

I look forward to seeing you in Hampton!

Sincerely,
Sheila Nelson-Hensley
VASFAA President, 2009-10
